Malanda Billy Carts 2010

B & C ready to race 8-12 yrolds race
Wow, what a day!  The Malanda Billy Carts was so much fun!  Firstly, congratulations to the Malanda Lions Club for their great job in organising and co-ordinating this event.  You guys are amazing.  The "Sourthern Tablelands Billy Cart Races" was more than just the race day.  Kids (Dads and families) had to build their billy cart, then get them scrutineered (to make sure they were safe for race day) and make sure they were registered.  On the Saturday (21st Aug) there was the scrutineering of carts at the Malanda Markets - come to Malanda and check out the town and markets, you'll find all sorts of stalls to choose so much from.

Luge riders demo
Saturday night there was a "BillyCart Bash" social and dinner.  The Lioness Club once again excelled themselves with a delicious dinner.  Thanks ladies!  We watched a DVD of last year's Billy Cart event as well as a DVD from the guys going down Mt Stuart (Townsville) with Luge and skateboards - if you like extreme sports try these! (PS. when clicking on link, don't get offended at what they have titled the fund-raising event, just check out the information) My kids really enjoyed meeting some of the the Luge and Skateboard guys.

"MooLander Stig"
Sunday 22nd August was race day.  Practice commenced 7 am in the morning and racing started at 9.30 am.  Fun, laughter and great family time.  The kids enjoyed racing, but I'm pretty sure the adults had just as much fun.  Competition was high and the "Moo Lander" Stig even paid a visit.  Lots of food, a jumping castle, good weather (it didn't rain and wasn't too hot).  All in all a very well organised event.

So thanks to the Malanda Lions Club from my family.  Well....better go and check out what the boys (and girl) are doing up the shed....I think they're getting ready for next year already!
