Anxiety and Living Differently
1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
To be free, to not be anxious, then we are challenged to go to Jesus. He can bear all our burdens and cares if we will but cast them on Him. In Jesus, there is no need to be anxious or worried about what will happen in life. This is God’s will for you. We know that life will not be smooth sailing. There will times of storms, trials and sad experiences. This verse does not say life will be smooth sailing, it simply reminds us to whom we need to be close to. Jesus will be with us and care for us. If we are sure of our life in Christ then we can share this with others and we can live differently by practicing Colossians 3:12, which tells us, "Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Each new day provides an opportunity to practice the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). As we reflect on the words in Colossians 3:12 and put into practice these habits, they will become part of how we think and act. God will then be given honour in our lives and others will see a different way to live.
Philippians 2:3 tells us, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves” This passage goes on to say, “in your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”
As Jesus chose to be a servant when He came to earth, he provides the example for us. The Lord humbled himself when He left heaven and came to earth. He considered other’s needs above his own. This powerful reminder shows us that we should take to heart the example of Christ, and practice daily.
From my own life experience, I do get anxious, so 1 Peter 5:7 is especially encouraging for me. And each day, I need to remind myself about Colossians 3:12. Some days I practice these verses better than others. Life is about growing up and overcoming. Be encouraged to live differently each day and continue to practice these life changing verses!
